Defined by water hazards on all 18 holes, the new Webbs Reserve Golf Club by Nicklaus Design meanders through the coastal plains and wetlands that characterize the south Florida community of Punta Gorda.

Modern architects agree that a golf course should, if at all possible, be at one with the natural landscape, a philosophy reflected in the design of the new Webbs Reserve Golf Club in Punta Gorda.

The 7,034-yard public-accessible layout by Jack Nicklaus Design meanders through the coastal plains and wetlands native to the south Florida community, bringing water into play on all 18 holes. “The stunning natural scenery of the area adds so much to the experience,” says Andrew McGrath, the club’s head professional.

Despite the potentially intimidating presence of 20 lakes, the Nicklaus Design team, led by Chris Cochran, built Webbs Reserve to be playable for golfers of all skill levels. The layout mixes testing holes with more forgiving ones that allow high-handicappers the opportunity to relax a little and take in the scenery. Play strategically or boldly, the choice is up to the golfer.

Punta Gorda, which started life in the 1850s as a fishing village, has grown into a vibrant seaside community. The downtown streets are lined with towering royal palms and restored Old Florida-style homes with wide verandas. Best of all for golfers, there are seven pubic-play courses right in Punta Gorda, with another 38 within a 20-minute drive.

Webbs Reserve Golf Club is the centrepiece of the Webbs Reserve at Babcock Ranch planned community, currently under development by Lennar Corporation. The property features a selection of single-family and coach homes, as well as veranda and terrace condominiums. The golf course, which opened in November 2024, will be complemented by amenities including an aqua driving range, covered and open pickleball courts, tennis courts, a fitness centre, a resort-style swimming pool, a two-storey bar and grill, and eight Toptracer bays.

Webbs Reserve Golf Club is managed by ICON Management, a division of Troon. Click here for more information or to book a tee time.
