As distinctively Canadian as the beaver and Niagara Falls, the mountain courses of Alberta and British Columbia are a vital part of our golfing heritage; living proof that, thanks largely to the genius of Stanley Thompson, nobody builds them better.

Through a magical mix of spectacular geography and artful design, Canada’s signature par threes often reflect not just the character of golf at a particular course, but of an entire region of the country.

Often these days I find myself daydreaming about a return visit to St. Andrews, Scotland. Then there’s England’s Golf Coast, the Okanagan Valley’s Predator Ridge Resort, Cape Breton’s Cabot Links and so many more trips I can’t wait to take again in 2013.

Anthony Mocklow, the director of golf at Bermuda’s Fairmont Southampton, is convinced that the popularity of the resort’s gorgeous, palm tree-lined par-three course is a harbinger of a faster, cheaper and more fun future for the game.
